"Hazard" Set to Become Best Opioid Crisis Movie as it Premieres January 2025
Coming soon to theaters, "Hazard" tells a powerful story about the opioid epidemic
sweeping through America. Directed by Eddie Mensore, whose previous film "Mine 9"
garnered critical acclaim, this movie sheds light on addiction in an Appalachian town.
Mensore captures the resilience of those affected, focusing on Will, played by Alex Roe, who
battles both his own addiction and his family’s survival, alongside his partner Sara,
portrayed by Sosie Bacon. “Hazard shows how addiction impacts not just individuals but
entire communities,” Mensore says. “We wanted to create an experience that felt real and
empathetic, bringing these hidden stories to the forefront.”
Set for release on January 10, "Hazard" will initially open in 40 theaters across
opioid-impacted areas, including locations in movies about recovery Appalachia, the UK, Kenya, and New Zealand,
before expanding nationwide and internationally.
The release aims to foster empathy and awareness, with Mensore partnering with various
addiction recovery organizations to promote healing in communities impacted by the
opioid crisis. The film's website includes theatrical release locations and dates and a trailer
that offers a glimpse into the intense, emotional journey the characters face as they fight to
survive and rebuild their lives.
"Hazard” successfully appeared at the "Woodstock Film Festival" on October 18, followed
by the “Bahamas International Film Festival” on November 13, accompanied by an
evocative soundtrack from sonaBLAST! Records. The film’s official trailer and more
information about the movie are available on the "Hazard" website, providing audiences
with a sneak peek of what’s expected to be one of the most compelling movies on the opioid
crisis to date.
